The Třebechovice Nativity Scene Museum has demonstrated how 3D digitization and AI avatars can be used to make unique cultural heritage accessible in a modern, interactive, and safe way.

Client
The Třebechovice Nativity Scene Museum – a public cultural institution that manages Probošt’s mechanical nativity scene, one of the most important monuments of folk art in the Czech Republic, visited by thousands of visitors of all generations every year.
Challenge
The main challenge was to combine the protection of an exceptionally valuable historical work with a modern and attractive presentation for the public. Probošt’s nativity scene contains a wealth of details and stories that cannot be fully conveyed in a traditional exhibition, and the museum was also looking for a way to appeal to younger generations accustomed to digital and experiential forms of learning.
Solution
The case study follows on from the museum’s previous collaboration with the University of Hradec Králové, a partner in the EDIH Northeast Bohemia consortium, which focused on the digitization of national cultural monuments. As part of the follow-up service provided by EDIH NEB, the use of 3D scans of selected nativity scene figures and their integration into a prototype interactive application using artificial intelligence was tested. A key element was the AI avatar of Josef Probošt, the creator of the nativity scene, who acts as a digital guide, introducing visitors to the individual scenes and stories of the characters.
Result
A functional prototype of an interactive application based on 3D digitization and AI was created, which allows detailed viewing of normally inaccessible parts of the nativity scene and their comprehensible explanation – without any interference with the original. The project was implemented using the test-before-invest method, which allowed the museum to safely verify the potential of the solution.

Benefits for the customer
The museum gained a clear idea of the possibilities for further digitization of the exhibition and a solid foundation for future development, for example in the areas of education, virtual reality, and online presentation of collections. The solution increases the attractiveness of the exhibition, enhances the visitor experience, and protects valuable cultural heritage.
